ECOLOGY
What is ecology?
The term ecology designates the concern to protect nature and man him self against pollution, alterations and various destruction resulting from industrial activities. It also aims for a better balance between man and his natural environment.
What is the ecological emergency?
Around the world, human activities cause the emission of greenhouse gases (gases present in large numbers in the Earth's atmosphere, which trap heat on Earth). This is called global warming and affects the climate and life on our planet. Global warming causes many problems on the Earth's surface such as melting ice, loss of habitat and extreme weather conditions. Deforestation also causes global warming; after being cut, trees release carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a greenhouse gas.
What can we do?
To be environmentally friendly, we must take action! We must protect our planet. Replacing coal and gas power stations with renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, is the most important strategy to reduce emissions. We must restore what we have destroyed. Nature can regenerate itself. Tropical forests are cut down at the rate of 30 football pitches per minute. Planting trees is essential for CO2’s elimination in the atmosphere. Deforestation must stop and new trees must be planted. We need to stop funding things that destroy the planet and pay for things that help it. Planning, financing and building low-emission means that allow people to live, work and travel without producing greenhouse gases are essential for a low-carbon future.
